Yesterday and then Today...I am a Ragamuffin
Yesterday was a very rough day. My days are totally consumed with trying to be patient, kind, loving and understanding, and at the same time, I am physically challenged to meet the needs of the students that I work with. Of all of the days this school year, yesterday was the hardest of all, but I needed to go through it.
I will not go into details of my job, but when I got home, I did a lot of crying. As I was laying in bed, about to go to sleep, I cried out to God and told Him that I needed Him so much and that the students that I work with need Him more, and that I can't do this job without Him. As I was crying, I could picture the little children coming to Jesus and His love toward them. It was amazing! All I could do was sob as I saw each of the faces of the students that I work with.
Chris and I are reading The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning. (I have to say, if you have not read this book, it is a must! It is a life changer and an eye opener of the grace of God.) In the 3rd chapter Manning goes into how Jesus tells us that we are to be like little children. They are uninhibited when they want something. They don't look at what they did wrong or what the future holds, they just come to us. He gave the example of a little boy, who was 3, who came to his door and asked, "Where are the cookies?" The little boy didn't greet him or anything, he just wanted some cookies. LOL When we come to the Father, we should just know that He excepts us as we are. We should not care about what we have done or what we might do or not do, but just to come as we are. The love of the Father is so great, so how can we not?
I have so much to learn from the students that I work with. They are, as my husband says, "The innocent of the innocent."
What is stopping you from letting the Heavenly Father embrace you? Is it your past, what you are doing now? Are you trying to earn His love? Just come as you are. I have made so many mistakes and am embarrassed by things that I have said, done, and will probably make more and more horrible mistakes, and hope that I don't. As for now, I know that I call upon the name of Jesus and I know that He is there for me. He loves me in spite of myself. He doesn't care about the wrong, He just loves me, just like He just loves you. We are all Ragamuffins.
